Michaël Cailloux reinvents etching by cutting his copper plates with a jeweler’s saw, freeing the composition from any traditional frame. Combining drypoint mastery with experimentation, he creates rich, intricate worlds where botanical arabesques and animal figures interact in a bold, immersive scenography. Through the play of “varia,” each print becomes a unique work, enhanced by delicate inking and exceptional papers.
Made in 2023, Innocence is part of Michaël Cailloux's work around the world of BambiThis engraving was presented in particular during the exhibition Childhood rediscovered , Nathalie Bereau Gallery in Paris, and The whispers of the forest à the Crochetan gallery in Switzerland (curator of works: Julia Hountou).
This work pays tribute to the centenary of Felix Salten's novel, Bambi: A Life in the Woods, exploring the themes of childhood and nature. Through this engraving, the artist invites a poetic reflection on the fragility and beauty of innocence.
