Le Parfum des Fleurs
The scent of flowers, 2024
Etching
Hahnemühle white paper
H. 55 x W. 29 cm
Work numbered and signed in 3 copies.
Michaël Cailloux reinvents etching by cutting its copper plates with a bocfil saw, thus freeing the composition from any traditional frame. Combining mastery of drypoint and experimentation, he composes teeming universes where plant volutes and animal figures converse in a frontal and immersive scenography. Through the play of "varia", each print becomes a unique work, magnified by subtle inking and exceptional papers.
Context
This work was created in 2024, while Michaël Cailloux was preparing his exhibition The power of the flowers at the Dominican Sisters of Pont-l'Évêque (February 1 – May 17, 2025). She is also inspired by the world of books Le ventre de Joseph, co-written with Marie Desplechin and published in 2024 by Thierry Magnier.
Through The scent of flowers, the artist explores the olfactory and sensory subtleties of the plant world, extending his poetic and narrative research on nature and its mysteries.
